Palgongsan Mountain is called the Jinsan of the Honam region because it connects all parts of the Honam region to the border of Gyeongsangnam-do Province, and some of Chungcheong-do Province is under the influence of this mountain. The mountain range beginning from Palgongsan Mountain contains Seongsusan Mountain, Maisan Mountain, Mandeoksan Mountain, Namno and Bukno. On this mountain, there is a historical temple founded by Buddhist Master Hyegong in the 3rd year of the reign of King Mu of Baekje and the 24th year of the reign of King Jinpyeong of Shilla- that is about the 6th century of the Christian era. A story is told Palseongsa Temple (which means Temple of Eight Saints) was named because each saint dwelled in one of eight hermitages subordinate to this old temple.
